First, a 1946 performance of Brahms\u2019s <em>Alto Rhapsody<\/em> featuring the African American contralto Carol Brice with Serge Koussevitzky leading the Boston Symphony Orchestra. There follows a live performance from 1954 of French soprano Fran\u00e7oise Og\u00e9as performing the title role of Debussy\u2019s Rossetti-based cantata <em>La damoiselle \u00e9lue<\/em> with mezzo-soprano Ginette Guillamat as the R\u00e9citante. Debussy specialist D\u00e9sir\u00e9-\u00c9mile Inghelbrecht leads the forces of the ORTF. The third major work in today\u2019s episode is Samuel Barber\u2019s <em>Knoxville: Summer of 1915<\/em>, in a live Carnegie Hall performance from October 10, 1958 by Eleanor Steber, who commissioned and premiered the work, accompanied by pianist Edwin Bitcliffe. Guest vocal appearances by Jewel Brown singing \u201cI Left My Heart in San Francisco\u201d and Marian Anderson performing \u201cHe\u2019s Got the Whole World in His Hands\u201d round out the I have been able to find precious little information about <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Mme. Og\u00e9as (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artlyriquefr.fr\/personnages\/Ogeas%20Francoise.html\" target=\"_blank\">Mme. Og\u00e9as<\/a><\/strong> apart from the fact that she was born in 1930 and spent many years living in Italy, where she taught singing. She made a number of high-profile recordings with Andr\u00e9 Cluytens (Yniold in his studio recording of <em>Pell\u00e9as et M\u00e9lisande<\/em>),  D\u00e9sir\u00e9-Emile Inghelbrecht  (the soprano solo in the Faur\u00e9 <em>Requiem<\/em>), and Lorin Maazel (The title role in his award-winning recording of <em>L&#8217;Enfant et les sortil\u00e8ges<\/em>). She also sang the latter role at the  Op\u00e9ra de Paris in 1960 and participated in recordings with the composer, singer, and folklorist <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Arne D\u00f8rumsgaard (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/arnedorumsgaard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arne D\u00f8rumsgaard<\/a><\/strong> (1921-2006), whose compositions and folk song arrangements have been performed by singers from Kirsten Flagstad to G\u00e9rard Souzay to Frederica Von Stade to Aksel Schi\u00f8tz to Teresa Berganza to Richard Lewis to Elly Ameling. The lush-voiced Ginette Guillamat (1911-1999) is equally elusive, but I found a marvelous recording on YouTube from 1938 of her singing <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=lSCj4yvHSeg\" target=\"_blank\">four m\u00e9lodies by Gabriel Faur\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> accompanied by the marvelous French pianist Vlado Perlemuter, a recording that was made in conjunction with her being awarded the International Gabriel Faur\u00e9 Prize. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped
